Russia is a country with a rich athletic tradition and proven experience in organising prestigious international tournaments, including the finals of top football and athletic events. In 2018, the FIFA World Cup™ will take place in eleven Russian Host Cities, seven of which - Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Sochi, and Nizhny Novgorod - are among Russia's top ten tourist destinations.

Getting there: It takes about 40 minutes to reach any of Moscow’s major airports by express train. Saint Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport is 20km south of the downtown, and 10km away from the closest Metro station.

Getting around: The underground (Metro) is considered the fastest transport in Russian cities and is available in six of the Host Cities participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup™: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, and Ekaterinburg. In Volgograd there's the metrotram, a high-speed tram. All FIFA World Cup Host Cities have legal taxi companies which are licensed to transport passengers and baggage and recognisable by their yellow or orange lamps on the roof, as well as checkered body (some host cities have further rules for taxis – for example, all official Moscow taxis are yellow).

Money: Russian law allows you to bring in under $10,000 (or its equivalent in any currency) in cash. These restrictions pertain to cash only, there is no limit to the amount you can bring in on credit/debit cards. You cannot use foreign currency to pay for goods and services in Russia – all transactions are conducted in rubles only. Currency can be exchanged in banks or specialized exchange points – theses marked by LED signs advertising current exchange rates for the US dollar and euro.
